Author: Crystalusagi (crystalusagi@seiyausagi.net) Lost: A Romance - Part One The streets of Kinmokusei were crowded as usual, and it seemed an endless endeavor trying to get pass all everyone, so she was content to just drift along the wave of people. She did not wear her formal garments this day, and so the crowd did not part for her, and did not fall on their knees to give her praise. She had lost her taste for the court life when she was on Earth, and upon returning, has never fully reacquainted herself with the lifestyle. Earth. The memories dulled, that word no longer elicited tears of longing. No longer would any lithe blonde figure remind her of that goddess that shone with hair like rays of sunlight, and with a smile that spoke of something much warmer and brighter. No longer, Seiya told herself over and over again, each time it happened. So she repeated those words within her mind like a mantra, willing herself to look away when she saw the woman, whose back was facing her, turn into the alleyway. The stream of golden hair was bundled into two round buns on either side of her head, and what was left cascaded past her shoulders. She was dressed in a white dress, plain and simple, certainly nothing that a commom citizen couldn't afford. Yet the crowd parted for her - her elegance, her light, exuded nobility. The woman stopped, as if she could feel Seiya's gaze upon her. Slowly, she turned, and Seiya could feel her life falling apart all over again. How many times had she laid awake in her bed at night, even with a lover sound asleep by her side, trying to erase that face from her heart and mind? How many times had she broken into tears thinking of the softness of that skin, the smile upon those lips, the brush of that hair upon her cheek, the sparkle of those clear blue eyes? She had willed herself to believe that the image of that angel had been buried under all the years of yearning, of pain, and finally, of acceptance. She had a strong will. But here it all was again, and the rush of emotion left Seiya too weak to move. "Usagi." There was recognition there. She could see it in the other girl's eyes. They both stood there now, as the world moved around them, eyes glued to one another. Tears. Both of them were crying, but she didn't notice. Only noticed that those blue eyes, once lit with immense happiness, were now deep with a sadness just as immense. Seiya wanted to run toward her, push everyone else away, and cradle her in comforting arms. Anything to erase the sorrow from Usagi's eyes. Before she could say or do anything, the blonde haired girl turned again, and ran. "Wait!!" she cried, but it was not enough. She tried to get past, but there were just too many people. Too many people bartering for their goods, too many people standing, talking to their friends and family, too many people living. And she was just one person whose life was slowly disintegrating. "ODANGO!!" Images flashed through her mind, images of her Odango smiling, laughing, safe in the arms of her chosen lover. Safe on Earth. But she was here now. Here. Why? Why was she here, and why did her eyes speak of such sadness. "What has happened to you, my angel?" Seiya whispered. She sighed, wiping away the hot tears that were streaming down her cheeks. "And why did you run away?" The bed did not creak. No; it creaked not a bit, and she wished it would, because at least then it wouldn't just be her weariness she was feeling. But of course it wouldn't creak - it was soft, warm, neatly made. It was a fresh new bed bought from the merchants just a few weeks ago; not an old, worn thing with an unbelievably comfortable old and mushy mattress. She was glad and disappointed at the same time. She took a deep breath in an effort to steady herself, but no matter how much air filled her lungs, no matter how rested her body was on the bed after a day of restless movement, each second ticking by was agony. Where was she? And- Suddenly, the doors to her private rooms swung open, and a silver haired woman, her hair tied up into a tight bun, stormed in, her robes fluttering in the air as she made her way quickly towards Seiya. Her eyes were dark with rage, so that their usual golden green was replaced by a shade that resembled ruiou, the fermented alcoholic beverage that the people on Kinmoku liked to drink. "Where the *hell* have you been?" Yaten gnarled, using a phrase and curse word common on Earth. It was normal, when she wasn't upset, for she and Taiki to avoid using any of the numerous words, phrases, references, etc., that they had learned on Earth. She was upset, though, and when Yaten was upset, she didn't give a "hell", and used the most amount of indiscretion that was possible. "We've been looking all over for you today! Or had you forgotten that the three of us were supposed to have had an important meeting with the Princess?" She reached Seiya, and grabbed the other woman's arm, pulling her up from the bed. It was easy for one to miss the sheer strength it took to pull someone bigger and taller up by force. That is, unless one knew the silver-haired - and silver-tongued- senshi on the battlefied. Then there would be no doubt. "I'm getting sick and tired of your forlorn attitude! All day you pine away over something you know can never be. It never truly gets better!" She grabbed Seiya's shoulders and shook the raven-haired Starlight a bit. "It's been six years! It's unrequited, Seiya!!" Seiya stared at her blankly for a minute. It was as if someone had punched her in the stomach, and the pain was spreadingly slowly like a poison in her veins. It hurt to speak, but she managed. "It's hard to believe," she said coldly, "that you.." She looked straight into Yaten's eyes. "...That you would be the one to talk of unrequited love." Yaten's eyes seemed to falter a bit, and Seiya felt a twisted sense of satisfaction as the green eyes misted slightly. "Who was it that was the most adamant about finding the Princess?" Yaten's eyes narrowed at that, and she took a step back. The rage was gone now, and Seiya could see that it was only there before as a cover, to blanket those other feelings that were inside her friend. Her anger also cooled, and in a softer tone, she kept on talking, because to stop would be to think of her own problems. "Both Taiki and I have seen, Yaten. Both of us have seen on Earth, and even before that, and now. Yes.. even more, now." ' Fresh tears slid off theYaten's cheek to land softly on the ground, making dull droplet sounds on the hard wood floor. Now there was no stopping both of them. 'At least I have someone to cry with,' thought Seiya. A while later, the silence, which had reigned supreme except for the sound of sniffles and tears hitting the floor, was broken. "I did it today," Yaten murmured quietly, voice ragged. "I told her. We were alone in the banquet hall, because I came early, and Taiki always comes late..." Her laugh was dry and humorless. "It's probably because you both know." "But she didn't know?" Yaten shook her head, face bitter and sad. "No. She cupped my face in her hands, and then she hugged me and cried." Her smile was bitter as well. "Then she walked out, and two hours later Taiki said the Princess wanted us to look for you, because you were missing. As if it had never happened." Never happened... So many things should never have happened according to the ones they loved, Seiya thought. Things such as stolen kisses in the rain and moonlit passion under heavy blankets. She was about to sit upon the bed again when a knock sounded on the open door, and Taiki walked through, eyes worried. "What's wrong?" she said, studying them both. She, too, seemed upset about something. They both shook their heads at her. Taiki sighed, wiping a bead of sweat from her forehead. "Seiya...." she was about to say something, but stopped. "Yaten. The Princess needs to see both of you. It quite urgent." She looked pointedly at Yaten. "She's been busy all morning with the arrangements." "Arrrangements?" Seiya asked. Taiki nodded, her eyes evasive. "We'd better get going," she said, turning from then and glancing back to make sure they were following. "She's waiting." All three silently walked down the lengthy hallways, past several staircases, until they found the one they needed to take to get to the Princess's private rooms. Kakyuu was there waiting for them, her long hair gleaming red, her face just as kind as any other day. But for Seiya she only awakened images of Usagi, whose face was (once) just as kind, whose hair gleamed just as brightly. For Yaten, there was relief and sorrow. The Princess waited until all three of her general senshi were seated at their usual seat around her table before she spoke. "Starlights. Early last night, visitors from a faraway kingdom came to Kinmokusei to ask us of assistance. The senshi of Mercury, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and their ruler are in their temporary private rooms right now. Taiki..Yaten...Seiya. Earth has fallen into the hands of an evil ruler." -------------------------------------------------------------- I hope that was good... I feel so bad for Yaten and Seiya. Or any other character I write about. I always abuse characters I write about. The poor things...
